We did the digs this week so your group chat doesn't have to. Here's the rundown for Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18, day by day, every event checked against venue and event sources before it made the list.
The big one: Ed Sheeran, Saturday night
Ed Sheeran's LOOP Tour takes over Bank of America Stadium (800 S Mint St) on Saturday, October 17, show at 5:30 PM with gates early. One performer, one loop pedal, a packed stadium singing every chorus. It's the largest show of the fall in Uptown, so give yourself extra time for the walk in and grab food and drink before the first song.
Friday: three ways to open loud
- Smashing Pumpkins at Spectrum Center, 8 PM. Nineties alt-rock and shoegaze at full arena scale.
- Five Finger Death Punch with Cody Jinks and Eva Under Fire at Truliant Amphitheater, 6:45 PM. The venue formerly known as PNC Music Pavilion hosts one of the biggest rock bills of the season.
- Charlotte Symphony at Belk Theater Friday night. If strings beat throat-shredding guitars for you, Uptown has that lane too.
Saturday: stadium to renaissance
The Carolina Renaissance Festival (16445 Poplar Tent Rd, Huntersville) runs both weekend days, ticket entry from 9:30 AM with village open to about 5:30 PM: jousting twice daily, 100+ artisan shops, and turkey legs the size of your forearm.
Closer in, the Charlotte Chalk Art Festival turns the grounds of NoDa Brewing (2921 N Tryon St) into an open-air gallery both days. Free, family-friendly, food trucks, and Yes, you can drink a beer while watching pavement get good.
Out east, Mint Hill Madness at Veterans Memorial Park wraps Saturday with a fireworks finale (11 AM-10 PM). And if hockey is your thing, the Charlotte Checkers open their home schedule at Bojangles Coliseum, Friday at 7 PM and Saturday at 6 PM.
Sunday: the soft landing
Teddy Swims closes the weekend at Spectrum Center Sunday evening, all soul and southern warmth. The Renaissance Festival and Chalk Art Festival keep running for daylight hours, and the Uptown Farmers Market (300 S Davidson St, 8 AM-12:30 PM) is at peak fall harvest. Sunday morning produce, Sunday evening soul. That's a close.
Before you go
- Verify showtimes before you drive. Big-venue shows sometimes shift doors.
- Buy the stadium show through Ticketmaster or the official venue link, not a resale screenshot from a stranger.
- Layer up. October in Charlotte runs warm midday and chilly after dark.
